Did Congressman Ron DeSantis oppose "The Wall?"

"MOSTLY FALSE"
DeSantis opposed the amnesty portion of the bill, not the border wall funding.

Former President Donald Trump wrote on his social platform, Truth Social, that he would not have endorsed then-Congressman and now-Governor Ron DeSantis had he known that DeSantis voted against "Trump's Border Wall" in 2018.

The failed bill in question, HR6136, had two divisions.

Division A pertained to "Border Enforcement."

Division B pertained to "Immigration Reform."

It is true that Division A included $16.625 billion in border wall funding.

However, Congressman DeSantis, along with other House conservatives, opposed the bill due to concerns not with the first division but with the second.

Who were the other conservatives who voted NAY? Below are some of the most well-known (full list here), and all have been endorsed by Trump subsequent to their vote against HR6136.

Jim Banks
Andy Biggs
Marsha Blackburn
Mo Brooks
Matt Gaetz
Louie Gohmert
Paul Gosar
Jim Jordan
Steve King
Thomas Massie
Tom McClintock
Mark Meadows (later appointed by Trump as White House Chief of Staff)
Scott Perry
John Ratcliffe (later appointed by Trump as Director of National Intelligence)

The "poison pill" was the provision allowing President Obama's illegal DACA amnesty to be expanded and codified.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, an anti-amnesty organization, pointed out those concerns in a 2018 press release blasting the bill.

Trump Base Revolts Against President's Endorsement of Ryan's Amnesty Bill

For National Release | June 27, 2018

Americans who voted to elect Donald Trump as President are rebelling in large numbers today against Trump's betrayal of his base by endorsing Speaker Ryan's immigration reform Amnesty bill (HR 6136) that would cancel out 1.8 million Trump, conservative, and Republican voters in future US elections while breaking numerous campaign promises by Trump.

At 8:39 am this morning, Trump shocked his own voters by tweeting out in all caps, "HOUSE REPUBLICANS SHOULD PASS THE STRONG BUT FAIR IMMIGRATION BILL, KNOWN AS GOODLATTE II, IN THEIR AFTERNOON VOTE TODAY, EVEN THOUGH THE DEMS WON’T LET IT PASS IN THE SENATE. PASSAGE WILL SHOW THAT WE WANT STRONG BORDERS & SECURITY WHILE THE DEMS WANT OPEN BORDERS = CRIME. WIN!" (View Here)

The bill Trump endorsed, HR 6136 "Border Security and Immigration Reform Act," contains an Amnesty 3 times larger than Reagan's ill-fated Amnesty in the '80s, would signal potential illegals around the world they can break into America and Congress will accommodate them to let them stay, and displace 1.8 million of Trump's own voters in future elections.

In truth, Trump is supporting a bill that would make it impossible for anyone with Trump's campaign stances on immigration to ever win another national election.

"Shame on President Trump for endorsing Speaker Ryan's illegal alien Amnesty bill HR 6136, which throws 1.8 million Trump voters under the bus in future US elections, to be cancelled out by illegals turned into Democrat voters! Trump lied to all of America in his campaign when he promised to end Amnesty, not endorse it!" declared William Gheen President of ALIPAC, who endorsed, voted for, donated to, and volunteered for candidate Trump. "Trump has clearly lied to all of America about his opposition to Amnesty and ending DACA since this bill would triple DACA and make it into permanent law. In real life, once someone lies to you multiple times, you can never trust a word they say again."

Many Broken Promises

Donald Trump promised America during his campaign that he would end Obama's unconstitutional and illegal DACA Amnesty on his first day in office, but he broke that promise. He also said in his campaign immigration speech in Arizona that there would be no discussion of immigration reform Amnesty for many years after his administration had fully enforced America's existing laws, but he broke that promise.

Trump tweeted out that he had ordered DHS to repel the illegal alien caravan approaching America's border, but instead DHS welcomed most of the caravan members into America. Trump called the Rubio and McCain backed "Gang of Eight" bill Amnesty he opposed, yet today he just tweeted out an endorsement supporting HR 6136 which is very similar to past immigration reform Amnesty bills.

While most Trump supporters are reluctant to believe this factual assessment of President Trump due to the large scale disinformation hurled at candidate and President Trump, this information and these concerns are emanating from people who supported and voted for Trump because we believed his promises to stop Amnesty and fight illegal immigration, not turn illegals into voters by the millions.

ALIPAC celebrated the defeat of the bill, dubbing it the Trump/Ryan Amnesty Bill.

The conservative Heritage Foundation released a graphic at the time detailing their position on the bill.

In conclusion, the claim that Congressman DeSantis opposed constructing a wall on the southern border is Mostly False. While he voted against a bill that included funding for the wall, the bill also included an amnesty provision that made it impossible for DeSantis and other conservatives to vote for.
